Finding, Accessing, and Managing Existing Data for Secondary Analysis

Instructor(s):

  • James Graham, Colorado State University
  • Matthew P. Malcolm, Colorado State University
  • Shane Redman, ICPSR STAFF

This workshop will be offered in an online video format.

This three-day workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of planning and conducting secondary data analysis. We will discuss the value of secondary data analysis in advancing scholarship and practice, and provide practical guidelines for finding, accessing, and managing existing datasets.

We will use both didactic learning methods and hands-on activities. The hands-on exercises will focus on large administrative and survey datasets from the field of disability and rehabilitation research, but the principles can be applied to virtually any research field. Further, participants are encouraged to use the workshop to develop a new project or get assistance on a work-in-progress. The information and skills from this workshop will be particularly beneficial for students, post-docs, and junior investigators looking for ways to establish and/or enhance their research programs.

Please note that participants are strongly encouraged to provide their own personal laptop computer. Tablets are not suitable.
