2015 Registration & Fees

Registration for the 2016 Summer Program will open in early February, 2016. Please check back at that time.

Note that Summer Program registration is not complete until payment is made. After that occurs, you will receive an e-mail confirmation message containing additional information about the Summer Program, including logistics, scheduling, and course details (where appropriate).

Participants who enroll in a four-week session should register for at least one workshop during that session. Note, however, that participants can sign up for, and attend, as many classes (workshops and lectures) as they like during the session in which they are enrolled (subject to time constraints, of course!). There are no class size limitations in any of the statistical courses offered during the four-week sessions.

Unsure about which courses to take during the four-week sessions? Confused about the content of the various workshop and lectures in these sessions? Get help by consulting the Guide for Selecting Summer Program Courses. Separate guides are available for the first four-week session and the second four-week session.

Note that three- to five-day statistical workshops have limited class sizes, due to classroom facilities and instructor preferences. Registration will be confirmed upon full payment of fees, on a first-come first-served basis. Waiting lists of applicants will be established for workshops that fill to their capacity.

Enrollments in some of the substantive workshops are granted on a competitive basis. When this is the case, it will be mentioned in the course description. For such competitive workshops, applicants may be required to submit supporting materials as part of their applications. Any such supporting materials should be uploaded to the *Summer Program Portal* via the applicants's own account page.

NOTE: The fees for the 2016 Summer Program have not yet been set. We will update this information as soon as possible.

2015 Fee Schedule

Fees differ for participants from ICPSR member institutions and for participants who are not from ICPSR member institutions. If you are not sure whether your college, university, or other institution is a member of ICPSR, then please check the complete list of ICPSR member institutions. Note that there is a discount for early enrollments to the four-week sessions that are paid in full before May 1, 2015. There is an additional discount for participants who register for both four-week sessions.

Note: Registrations for the three- to five-day statistical workshops are on a per-course basis. That is, a participant registered for a course or courses may not attend other ICPSR courses, unless he or she is registered for those other courses. Program scholars, however, can attend as many of the four-week ICPSR workshops and lectures as they want during the four-week session for which they are registered.

Discount for Returning ICPSR Summer Program Participants

Did you participate in a previous ICPSR Summer Program? If so, you will receive a 15% discount on your registration fee in this year's ICPSR Summer Program. This discount is available for anyone who took either four-week classes or short workshops in any ICPSR Summer Program, last year or earlier. The discount will be applied to the fees for both statistical short courses and the four-week sessions in the current year's ICPSR Summer Program. You don't have to do anything special to apply for the discount; just register for the Summer Program through our *online Portal*. As part of the application, you will be asked about your previous participation in the ICPSR Summer Program. Upon verification of the information you provide, the discount will be applied to your fees automatically. That's all there is to it!

Discounts for Enrolling in Two or More Statistical Short Courses

Want to take several of our statistical short courses? If so, we want to make it easier for you to do that. Participants who register for two or more of our three- to five-day statistical workshops will receive a 15% discount on the total registration fee.

The process for obtaining this multiple-enrollment discount is very easy: After you register for two or more short courses using our online portal (but before you make your payment), just send an e-mail message to sumprog@icpsr.umich.edu with your name and "Multiple Short Workshop Discount" in the subject line. We will verify your enrollment in an eligible set of workshops and adjust the charge to reflect the discount. We will then let you know that the charge has been adjusted, and you can make payment. That's all there is to it!

Please note that this discount only applies to enrollments in short statistical workshops. It does not apply to registrations for the four-week sessions or to registrations for short workshops with discounted or waived fees. If fee payments are made across several installments, then the discount will be applied to the final payment

Registration Status and Academic Credit

All ICPSR Summer Program participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance at the completion of the appropriate four-week session or 3- to 5-day workshop in which they are enrolled. For selected courses in the four-week sessions only, participants may request EITM certification. Information about EITM and the certification is available on the EITM website.

The vast majority of ICPSR Summer Program participants do not take courses for formal academic credit, but rather attend as Program Scholars.

  • Academic credit is not available for any of the three- to five-day statistical and substantive workshops.

  • University of Michigan students can enroll in workshops within the Summer Program's four-week sessions for academic credit at the University of Michigan.

  • Summer Program participants who are not University of Michigan students can receive University of Michigan academic credit for workshops in the four-week sessions by enrolling as a "Summer Guest." Note, however, that this requires admission to the University of Michigan's Rackham Graduate School for the summer and the tuition for Summer Guest enrollment is very high (about $6,000 to $9,000).

  • Most Summer Program participants in the four-week sessions enroll as "Program Scholars." This is an auditor status, which does not include a formal grade. Program Scholars can attend as many workshops and lectures as they like during the four-week session in which they are enrolled.

  • For Program Scholars who participate fully in a workshop during a four-week session (i.e., they attend all classes and complete all written course requirements), we can provide a formal grade memorandum. This memorandum reports the letter grade that the instructor would have assigned, if the participant had been taking the course for credit. Participants can request grade reports for some or all of the workshops that they take during the Summer Program's four-week sessions.

  • Many Program Scholars use the grade memorandum to obtain academic credit for ICPSR Summer Program courses at their home institutions. Typically, a Summer Program participant makes prior arrangements with his or her academic advisor or home institution faculty to register for a readings course or independent study at their home institution. Following the participant's successful completion of the Summer Program workshop during a four-week session in Ann Arbor, the academic advisor or sponsoring faculty member at the home institution uses the ICPSR-issued grade memorandum to assign appropriate credit in the readings or independent study course. Please note that ICPSR only provides the information about the appropriate letter grade; the academic credit, itself, must be assigned by the home institution. Therefore, interested participants should definitely check in advance with their own academic advisor to make sure that this option can be used at their home institution.
