Analyze Data Online

Online data analysis allows users to:

  • Produce analysis results very quickly (within seconds), even for large datasets with thousands of cases and variables
  • Create statistical tables from the research data without downloading the data file

NAHDAP data are available for online analysis free of charge. To access, users must login to ICPSR with a free ICPSR MyData account or an existing Google, LinkedIn, or Facebook account and agree to the Terms of Use.

SDA online data analysis options below use the Survey Documentation and Analysis (SDA) statistical software developed and is maintained by the Computer-assisted Survey Methods Program (CSM) at the University of California, Berkeley.

Online Data Analysis Using SDA

SDA allows users to explore and analyze the data without having to download the data and does not require familiarity with a statistical software package. Users may also create custom subsets of the data, e.g., subset of cases and/or subset of variables and download the subsets.

With SDA, users can:

  • Analyze the data online, i.e., use the data and software from the NAHDAP Website so the data and statistical software need not be on the data user's computer
  • Perform various types of analysis: frequencies and crosstabulation, comparison of means, correlation matrix, comparison of correlations, multiple regression, logit/probit regression
  • Search for variables of interest in a dataset
  • Review frequencies or summary statistics of key variables to determine whether the data have the needed information to conduct more analyses
  • Review frequencies or summary statistics for missing data
  • Produce simple summary statistics for reports
  • Recode and create new variables
  • Subset variables or cases into an SPSS, SAS, Stata, or comma-separated ASCII dataset for download (easy to do even with large data collections and saves time and storage when using personal computers)
  • Export results for use in spreadsheets and presentations
  • Browse the online codebooks

Important Note:The dataset and HTML codebook for use with SDA may not contain the same variables as the dataset and PDF codebook that are downloadable from a study's download web page. To access the Full Study Documentation, use the Full Study Documentation link available under the Codebook tab. Data available in SDA are also available in the simple crosstab/frequency feature.
