This data collection is part of a continuing series of exit polls. CBS News and The New York Times interviewed voters in 1984 as they left the polls on primary election day in Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Voters were asked about their choice of candidates in the presidential primary and to describe candidate characteristics and issues that helped in their selection. Voters were also asked for their political party preference and liberal/conservative attitudes, and to evaluate President Ronald Reagan's job performance. Demographic information, including sex, age, race, educational attainment, and income, is included for each respondent. There is one data file for each state.
