This collection contains enrollment data only. Racial/ ethnic data are not included as in other years. Part 1, Institutional Characteristics, contains institutional characteristics data along with total enrollment for all institutions in the fall enrollment survey. Part 2, Enrollment Data, contains enrollment data for all institutions by full- or part-time status, level of study, type and control of institution, affiliation, and offered degrees.

The codebook for this collection is provided as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The PDF file format was developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated and can be accessed using PDF reader software, such as the Adobe Acrobat Reader. All two-year and over postsecondary institutions were included along with a probability of selection sample of all less than two-year private institutions.

2006-01-18 File CB3736.ALL.PDF was removed from any previous datasets and flagged as a study-level file, so that it will accompany all downloads.

2003-07-30 ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:

  • Performed consistency checks.
  • Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.


  • Data in this collection are available only to users at ICPSR member institutions.

  • The citation of this study may have changed due to the new version control system that has been implemented.
