Summary

The Survey and Assessment of Vietnamese Youth (SAVY) is the first national survey on adolescents and youth to evaluate health status and other important development issues of the group of married and unmarried young people aged 14-25 from ethnic, rural, and urban areas of 42 provinces across Vietnam. The study provides detailed analysis and disaggregation of data for comparison purposes of specific groups including young men and women, rural and urban youth, married and unmarried young people, and young people of differing education levels. The survey was designed to assess education, employment, health and reproductive behavior and other development issues of adolescent and young people including HIV/AIDS, substance use, injuries, and violence. SAVY also explored young people's perceptions and attitudes as well as their future expectations.

Spelling for this study maintains a European (UK) English standard as given by the original questionnaire.

Sample

Nine thousand households that had any youth aged 14-25 were chosen for SAVY. These households were expected to contain about 10,000 youth. This sample was drawn randomly from the sample of 45,000 households of the 2002 Vietnam Household Standard Living Survey (VHLSS) conducted by the General Statistics Office (G50) of Vietnam, under the technical guidance of the World Bank.

Persons aged 14-25 inclusive, born between 1979 and 1989, living in households in selected Enumeration Areas (EAs) across Vietnam.

Version History

2009-01-13 ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data.
