The accepted Union Army recruits in this file were drawn from a larger collection, UNION ARMY RECRUITS IN WHITE REGIMENTS IN THE UNITED STATES, 1861-1865 (ICPSR 9425).

Random sample of all rejected recruits from the Union Army, and a subset of 4,952 cases from a one-stage cluster sampling of white companies in the Union Army. Clusters were companies, with each company having an equal probability of being included.

All rejected recruits from the Union Army, and all recruits mustered into the Union Army.
