Summary View help for Summary
This SETUPS is designed as an introduction to the study of elections, voting behavior, and survey data through the analysis of the 1988 United States general election. The data are taken from the AMERICAN NATIONAL ELECTION STUDY, 1988: PRE- AND POST-ELECTION SURVEY (ICPSR 9196), conducted by Warren E. Miller and the National Election Studies. A subset of items including behavioral, attitudinal, and sociodemographic data were drawn from the full election survey.

The data for this instructional subset are distributed by ICPSR through an arrangement with the American Political Science Association (APSA). Manuals for use with the data are available from the APSA Division of Educational Affairs. Arrangements have been made for individuals at ICPSR member institutions to obtain a bulk order discount on the price of the manuals supplied by the APSA. Faculty should notify the Association of eligibility for the discount and insure that the bookstore order form also indicates Consortium membership. For users with microcomputers running the PC-DOS or MS-DOS operating systems, the dataset can be supplied as an ABC file on floppy disks with a subsetted version of the ABC statistical software package included on the disks.
