This survey was conducted following President Reagan's broadcast speech of August 12, 1987. Respondents were asked if they had seen or heard any of the speech, if they were satisfied with the explanations Reagan gave for the Iran-Contra arms affair, and if they felt Reagan was telling the truth and had answered their questions about his role in the affair. Respondents also were asked if they had a favorable view of a number of the goals Reagan mentioned he would like to accomplish before the end of his term and if they thought he would be able to make progress in accomplishing them. Additional questions put to all respondents focused on the United States' military presence in the Persian Gulf. Demographic characteristics of respondents also are included.
