This survey is a follow-up poll on the subway shooting incident involving Bernhard Goetz. Respondents were queried for their opinions on Goetz's action and his claim of self-defense, whether their attitudes differed now from when they first heard of the case, the refusal of the grand jury to indict Goetz for attempted murder, the possibility of the District Attorney's office presenting new charges to a new grand jury, the characterization of Goetz as an innocent victim, and Mayor Koch's statements regarding the news media's handling of the case. Opinions on training New Yorkers in the use of firearms were also elicited.
