Summary

This study was conducted in three phases: Phase 1 in August 1969, Phase 2 in September-October of the same year, and Phase 3 in October-December, before and after the elections that took place on October 28, 1969. The political sections of the interview dealt with past and present voting behavior, political interests and activities, evaluations of the Israeli government and parties, and Arab-Israeli relations. Basic background information and data about the respondents' social and geographic mobility were elicited as well.

Data Collection Notes

  1. Phases 2 and 3 of the study were carried out in conjunction with other projects underway at the Israel Institute of Applied Social Research at the time. The data collected for these other projects are in the datasets, but documentation is not provided for them, nor does ICPSR possess documentation for them.

Sample

For each phase of the study, a representative sample of the urban adult Jewish population was drawn from the voters' list of the Interior Ministry. The respondents were selected from greater Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, and Beer Sheba -- areas that contained 60 percent of the country's population. Underrepresented groups were females, people born in Asia or Africa, newcomers, and persons with a low level of education.
