Acculturation: A Data-Driven Learning Guide (ICPSR 333)

Data-Driven Learning Guides are a collection of instructional exercises that can be used to enhance teaching of core concepts in the social sciences. This learning guide investigates the assimilation and the separation/ethnic competition models of acculturation. Research questions that can be explored using this learning guide include: how acculturation may affect immigrants' socio-economic status as well as their mental and physical health, whether exposure to American mass media promotes acculturation, whether immigrants can maintain both a high acceptance of American cultural values and a high affinity for their ethnic cultural identity, what factors may promote or hinder acculturation, and what influence acculturation may have on immigrants' social and political attitudes. Crosstabulation is used in the analyses.
