  1. The data files are series of tables that are provided as text files and consist of raw data, documentation, and frequencies for every county in a state. These files should be printed in a landscape format.

  2. Complete count data, identified by an asterisk (*) preceding the table number, were compiled from the United States Bureau of Census short-form questionnaire. Sample estimates, identified by a pound sign (#) preceding each table number, were derived from the long-form questionnaire completed by a sample of households. The sampling rate for households varied from one of six to one of two, depending upon the area in which the household was located.

  3. Users of the data presented in these tables are cautioned to keep in mind that the data are subject to error and should not be viewed as completely accurate. The data are subject to nonsampling error, that is, errors resulting from incomplete coverage of all households, incomplete questionnaires that were returned, and a variety of processing errors. A discussion of the effects of sampling error and tables of sampling errors are contained in the Appendix for each data file. Finally, it is possible that some of the School District Boundaries that were submitted by the State Educational Agencies may have been inaccurate and thereby contributed to errors in some school district summaries.
