This poll is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that solicit public opinion on the presidency and on a range of other political and social issues. Respondents were asked to provide their opinions of President Bill Clinton and his handling of the presidency and to comment on the future of Social Security and Medicare. A series of questions about the United Parcel Service (UPS) strike was also posed, with topics covering presidential intervention in strikes, perceptions of the Teamsters' Union and the AFL-CIO, and the impact of the UPS strike on the average citizen. Other questions focused on Saturday morning activities, viewership of men's and women's sports, college sports funding, and distribution of collegiate athletic resources. Respondents were asked for their opinions on the importance and necessity of a college education, whether higher education was a right, the responsibility of government to provide a college education, and the financial payback of a college education. A series of questions about car ownership and driver training asked respondents about the comparative value and safety of United States and Japanese automobiles, driver safety, car phone use, elderly drivers, seat belt use, driver education programs, and experience with auto mechanics. Background information on respondents includes age, race, sex, ethnicity, education, political party, political orientation, religion, family income, age of children in household, labor union membership, car ownership, knowledge of how to repair a flat tire, and possession of a valid driver's license.
