Version V1

The Fall Enrollment survey is conducted annually by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) as part of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). The survey collects student enrollment data by 11 age categories as defined by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). There are three parts included in this survey. Part A, Enrollment Summary, provides enrollment data by total of men and women and by level and year of study of the student. Part B, Enrollment Summary of Students by Age, comprises all students enrolled for credit by level of study and by sex and age of student. Part C, Clarifying Questions, supplies information on students enrolled in remedial courses, extension divisions, and branches of schools, as well as numbers of transfer students from in-state, out of state, and other countries. There are 268,567 total records in this data file.

survey data

2008-10-16 The metadata record has been updated, the data have been reformatted, an ICPSR codebook was created, and SPSS and Stata setup files have been added to the study.

1999-08-20 ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:

  • Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.

  • Data in this collection are available only to users at ICPSR member institutions.

  • The citation of this study may have changed due to the new version control system that has been implemented.
