The following are announcements from the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Data Archive (SAMHDA):

New

Survey instruments (for example, questionnaires) are now available in
one location on the SAMHDA Web site. Instruments are provided in
Portable Document File (PDF) format and represent all instruments that
have been provided to SAMHDA or that are in the public domain.
Instruments were previously provided in different ways, such as
appendices to codebooks and as hypertext links to other web sites. We
hope that gathering the instruments in one location assists users in
utilizing these important documents. To access the instruments, go to
the SAMHDA front page and select the "More" link on the left-hand side
of the page. From there, select "View Survey Instruments".

Upcoming

We do not yet have an expected release date for the archival and online
data analysis system (DAS) files for the 2004 National Survey on Drug
Use and Health (NSDUH), but will notify the listserv as soon as we do.
Meanwhile, system files for the NSDUH are available on FastTrack (see
http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/SAMHDA/fasttrack.html).

Ongoing

We appreciate the appropriate citation for analyses using data obtained
from SAMHDA. Each SAMHDA study description and codebook includes a
suggested bibliographic citation for the data. For more information on
citing data files, see http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/org/citation.html.

When you are looking for specific variables but are unsure of which
studies contain them, use the variable search on the right-hand side of
the SAMHDA front page. This searches the question text and variable and
value labels for studies on the online data analysis system, which
includes most SAMHDA studies. The search may take up to 2-3 minutes to
run but includes thousands of variables. In the near future all SAMHDA
studies will be included in the variable search.

Please call or email our helpdesk with any questions you may have.
