Updates from the archive include:
(1) A new addition to the online analysis component of SAMHDA is now
available using the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS). The new feature is
called Quick Tables and it allows users to produce analytic tables by
choosing from among pre-selected high-interest variables available in
drop-down menus. To access Quick Tables, (1) select "Online Analysis" from
our front page, (2) select TEDS, (3) select the 1995-2000 concatenated file
or an individual year of TEDS, (4) select from the list of available Quick
Tables, (5) select the variables of interest from the drop-down menus, (6)
select the "create the table" button.
(2) OAS recently released a short report demonstrating the use of the
online data analysis system (DAS) and Microsoft Excel to graph DAS results:
The DASIS Report: Graphing Multi-year Analyses of TEDS:

All short reports demonstrating the DAS may be found at:
http://www.samhsa.gov/oas/tutorial.cfm#Examples.
(3) The archival version of the 1994 Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) and
the DAS version of the 1993 TEDS have been updated with data from the
March, 2003 extract and now includes 100% of all records, additional
variables such as number of substances reported, intravenous drug use
(IDU), and flags for any mention of specific substances, and expanded
values for certain variables such as all originally collected codes for
race and ethnicity. The new files replace the earlier version that
contained a 25-percent sample of records. All TEDS files are available from
the following page: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu:8080/SAMHDA-SERIES/00056.xml
(4) We are in the process of adding a new keyword field to our abstracts.
This allows users to click on any of the keywords to generate a search that
produces a list of all other SAMHDA studies including the same keyword.
This is the last field in the abstracts (e.g., see
http://www.icpsr.umich.edu:8080/SAMHDA-STUDY/03580.xml).
Call our toll-free helpline or email us with questions or for assistance
downloading files or using the online analysis system.
