** New releases:
The 2000 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse is now available on the
online data analysis system (DAS). You may access the 2000 NHSDA on the DAS
at: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/cgi-bin/SDA12/hsda?samhda+nhsda00. Using the
DAS, you may run analyses on the NHSDA, view the variable information and
frequencies in the DAS codebook (HTML format), or download all or part of
the data file and a corresponding data definition file and codebook (ASCII
format).
To download the entire file, click on "Download a customized subset of
variables/cases" from the initial DAS screen (the link provided above). On
the next screen (1) select the delimiter you want, (2) select the type of
data definitions you want (SAS, SPSS, or Stata), and (3) under "Select
Variables to Include" change the selection for each variable grouping from
"none" to "all". Hit "Continue" at the top of the screen. On the next
screen, confirm that the options you have selected are correct and hit
"Create the Files". The system will create an ASCII data file, data
definition file, and codebook. Following the instructions for saving the
files to disk. For the NHSDA, there is no difference between the archival
data file and the data file for the DAS. You can confirm that you have
downloaded all variables and records by comparing your downloaded file to
the file information in the DAS codebook under "Data Collection
Description" (near the bottom). The NHSDA contains 58,680 records and 1,866
variables.
The archival files, which include the ASCII data file, SAS and SPSS data
definition statements, and PDF codebook are in the final stages of
preparation and will be released later this week.
