Dear Mary,
In accordance with the process proposed in the May 2008 meeting of the Expert
Committee, TIC has reviewed the bugs currently noted in Mantis and recommend
that no revision of the specification take place at this time. We feel that the
bugs are minor enough that they can easily be incorporated in a revision later
in the year without ill effect. As each new release requires a namespace change
we feel that any revisions issued during the first year should provide an
actual benefit to DDI users.
We do not anticipate a revision until after the Fall workshops at Dagstuhl.
Both the DDI workshop and the Expert Workshop taking place in early November
may bring to light additional small enhancements which we would want to
incorporate. In addition, delaying a revision until late in 2008 or the first
quarter of 2009 allows users a chance to work with a stable product and TIC a
chance to carefully review a number of use cases such as data collection
involving non-survey data sources.
Please inform the Expert Committee and others of this decision,
Wendy Thomas
