Versioning should be apparently very flexible for legacy purposes. For 
building new instances a version scheme with tighter constraints makes 
sense. Then the constraints seem to be dependent from the intended 
purpose or is it possible to define one fixed constraint? If yes, then a 
choice would be possible between "legacy version format" and "strict 
version format". Or is it desirable to have the version format 
user-configurable in any way?
