Dear Pascal,

Jannik thought you might be interested in the following...

LimeSurvey is an open source project based on php and MySQL.
It's primarily used for conducting online surveys, but also supports
direct data entry. It has been fully translated in to 25 different
languages; thus making it useful to conduct cross-border websurveys
(e.g. with respondents from all EU member states).

The people running the project are working on a major rewrite of the
code, i.e. the future ver. 2.x will be modular, include increased
support of different formats (e.g. XML) etc. Last week, the
project won Les Trophées du libre 2007 in the category 'Enterprise
Management' (http://www.tropheesdulibre.org/?lang=en).

Now to the main point: From my perspective - being a social scientist
and not a software developer - LimeSurvey seems to be an ideal "partner"
for DDI 3, since it is: open source, freely available to everybody
(incl. all members of the DDI Alliance), translated to several
languages, a tool type widely used by social scientists etc.

Implementing the option of creating a DDI 3 document in LimeSurvey would
benefit both open source/standard projects; LimeSurvey lack a real data
documentation feature atm, while DDI 3 could use more support from real
life tools (i.e. tools used by social scientists).

You can read more about LimeSurvey on the projects homepage:

Best regards,
Paw
