I wanted to update you on the October meeting. This will be a meeting of the SRG and one representative from each of the substantive working groups -- J Gager from the Aggregate Group, Jeremy Iverson from the Instrument Documentation Group, and Oliver Watteler from the Comparative Data Group. The meeting will take place Tuesday-Thursday, October 18-20, in Ann Arbor. The objective is for the SRG to integrate the proposals of the three substantive working groups into the first draft of a Version 3.0 specification. Note that the proposals are due from the groups on September 1. More later. Hope you are all having a good summer... The revised DTD and Schema (Version 2.1) and corresponding Tag Library are now available on this page of the DDI site: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/DDI/users/dtd/index.html The revised version incorporates the new method for handling categories that was voted on in the spring. You can find information on the actual changes made by accessing Version History and scrolling to the bottom of the file: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/DDI/users/dtd/version-history.html Also, I wanted to remind the Working Groups that our September 1 deadline for submission of proposals to the SRG is fast approaching. The SRG will need to work on the proposals extensively before they get together in Ann Arbor on October 18-20, so please plan to comply with this important deadline. And finally, ICPSR is working on a draft design for a new iteration of the DDI Web site, which the Usability and Outreach Group will be refining. I have attached a little homework for you ;-) Or better, I have compiled the topics that have come up in the various discussions and papers over the past month and have brought them into some kind of order. My summary is fit into the DDI-Alliance change manual framework, so the major sections match the guidelines. As you will note its a draft and several sections are empty. We will have to discuss what to fill in and how. So I would propose to go through the paper step by step and check what is needed and which changes have to be made to the draft.
