From ilona_e at berkeley.edu Thu Mar 30 12:49:54 2006 From: ilona_e at berkeley.edu (Ilona Einowski) Date: Thu Mar 30 12:49:25 2006 Subject: [DDI-ADG] Release of Version 3.0 Message-ID: <003201c65422$5a63d0b0$8501a8c0@ucdc103ie> Dear Aggregate/Time/Geography Committee Members, As some of you know, in June I will be retiring from UC Berkeley after 36 years. I had assumed that I would no longer be involved in the DDI Alliance Expert Committee. I made my travel arrangements for IASSIST 2006 and did not include staying over the Saturday for the Expert Committee meeting. With the release of the Version 3.0 specifications I see that there is no way I can let go of the DDI work. With this in mind, I have talked with the Director of UC DATA who has agreed to let me continue (post-retirement) to act as one of the UCB representatives to the Alliance. What remains now is to work out how I will be involved. For now, I would like to continue to be actively involved in a response to the new specifications. I assume that we will all have a look at the web site and follow the SRG suggestions for reviewing the specifications. Should we set up a conference call some time in late April to discuss Version 3? How many of you plan to be at IASSIST/attend the DDI Expert Meeting? If it looks like the meeting on May 27 will be a working session, I will change my travel plans. If it looks like a written statement from me of any areas of concern or requests for clarification will suffice AND if the group will be represented at the meeting, perhaps it is not necessary for me to attend. I would appreciate hearing back from you about your plans for the meeting and your response to the suggestion of a conference call in April. It's so great that you want to stay involved. I think it's a really good idea to schedule a first conference call sometime in April. Does the week of the 24th work for people? We had been meeting on Tuesdays (at 11am?), so would Tuesday, April 25 at 11 work for most people? If you are willing to be on the call, please respond to Cathy Zahner at the email address above. Regarding the agenda for the May 27 meeting, I doubt that there will be time for Working Groups to meet. The meeting is more likely going to be devoted to a discussion and vote on the specification; a discussion of existing working groups and the need for new ones; options for the DDI Web site; 3.0 tools; and ways to get documentation created. If you decide not to attend the meeting, maybe we can talk about how best to voice your thoughts on the topics, whether written or through some other mechanism. I too am eager to hear who will be attending from our group. Regards, Mary P.S. If Kate is by any chance looking at email, congratulations on the new baby! ________________________________ From: ddi-adg-bounces@icpsr.umich.edu [mailto:ddi-adg-bounces@icpsr.umich.edu] On Behalf Of Ilona Einowski Sent: Thursday, March 30, 2006 12:50 PM To: ddi-adg@icpsr.umich.edu Subject: [DDI-ADG] Release of Version 3.0 Dear Aggregate/Time/Geography Committee Members, As some of you know, in June I will be retiring from UC Berkeley after 36 years.
