Paula Braveman

Biography:

Paula Braveman is professor of Family and Community Medicine and director of the Center on Social Disparities in Health at the University of California, San Francisco. Her areas of interest include documenting and understanding socioeconomic and racial or ethnic disparities in health, particularly in maternal and infant health; translating research into information to inform policies to reduce health disparities; methodological and conceptual issues in studying socioeconomic and racial or ethnic inequalities in health in the U.S. and internationally; developing measures of experiences of racial discrimination for use in studies of adverse birth outcomes among African-American women in the U.S.; measuring socioeconomic factors in U.S. health research; and the concept and measurement of health inequalities in the U.S. and internationally.
