Mathematica Policy Research
Jerry West is a Senior Fellow at Mathematica Policy Research. He holds a PhD in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is project director for the Head Start Family and Child Experiences Survey (FACES), and is leading the FACES Redesign Project. He is also project director for the Early Childhood Development Secondary Data Analysis Project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families. Prior to joining Mathematica, Dr. West directed the Early Childhood and Household Studies Program at the National Center for Education Statistics. For nearly two decades, he has designed and managed national studies of children and families, including the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study kindergarten (ECLS-K) and birth cohort (ECLS-B) studies and the National Household Education Survey. He has authored or co-authored many federal government reports, articles and papers on such topics as school readiness, child care and early education, parental involvement in children?s education, and kindergarten in the U.S. He is a recognized expert on longitudinal research and serves as an advisor on the design and conduct of longitudinal studies in the U.S. and abroad.
