Douglas Baer

Biography:

Douglas Baer is Professor of Sociology at the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC, Canada, where he has been teaching since 2001. He is a past Chair of his department and is presently the Academic Director of the Branch Statistics Canada Research Data Centre there. Previously, he taught at the University of Western Ontario. He is a former President of the Canadian Sociological Association, and has recently served on numerous national grant committees. His research interests include voluntarism and civic engagement, immigrant social and economic adaptation in Canadian society, social inequality, and comparative politics.
