For this survey, respondents from three counties in the\nDetroit, Michigan, area were queried about their work, health,\nmarriage and family, finances, political views, religion, and child\nrearing. With respect to finances, respondent views were elicited on\ncredit card purchases, recording expenditures, and savings and\ninvestments. Regarding political views, respondents were questioned\nabout political preferences, presidential values, freedom of speech,\nnuclear war, and the interest of public officials. Questions also\naddressed religious beliefs and experiences, including the religiosity\nof respondents' parents, belief in and relationship with God, the\nrelationship between science and religion, school prayer, divorce, and\nhomosexuality. Additional religious questions -- based on the\nrespondents' religious preference (i.e., Protestant, Catholic, Jew,\nOther Religion, or No Preference\/Agnostic\/Atheist Only) -- also were\nasked, covering topics such as interfaith marriages, religion of\nfriends, and observance of religious holy days. Questions were asked\nabout the views of respondents' religious leaders on issues including\ndrinking, abortion, and test-tube fertilization. Regarding child\nrearing, views were elicited on issues including religious preference\nof child(ren) raised, religious training given to child(ren), and\nfrequency of prayer before meals.
