The Source for Crime and Justice Data

Terrorism & Preparedness Data Resource Center

Overview of the Project

The Terrorism & Preparedness Data Resource Center (TPDRC) is housed at the University of Michigan's Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). TPDRC archives and distributes data collected by government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and researchers about the nature of intra- (domestic) and international terrorism incidents, organizations, perpetrators, and victims; governmental and nongovernmental responses to terror, including primary, secondary, and tertiary interventions; and citizen's attitudes towards terrorism, terror incidents, and the response to terror. It also organizes and streamlines access to extant research and administrative data from across the world that are relevant to the study of terrorism and the response to terrorism for descriptive and scientific analysis by academics and researchers.

TPDRC is jointly managed by researchers from the University of Maryland's National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START, a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence), Michigan State University's School of Criminal Justice, and the University of Michigan's National Archive of Criminal Justice Data.

About the Terrorism and Preparedness Survey Archive (TaPSA)

The Terrorism and Preparedness Survey Archive (TaPSA) is part of the Terrorism & Preparedness Data Resource Center (TPDRC). TaPSA archives and distributes survey data collected by government agencies, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and researchers from an 'All Hazards' emergency response and preparedness approach.

Search Tips

  • Searching is not case sensitive. "Dog" and "dog" return the same results.
  • The search engine uses quotation marks to do phrase searching.
  • If you enter multiple words (or single words in multiple fields), they are treated as a default Boolean "and" so you get results that have all the words. Boolean operators ("and," "or," and "not") are ignored.
  • Do not use an asterisk (*) to match partial words. The search engine automatically performs "stemming," meaning that partial-word matches should appear in search results (more info).

Please use the ICPSR main search to search all ICPSR holdings.

Availability of Data

Some studies listed here are freely available to everyone because organizations such as the U.S. Department of Justice supported their processing; other studies listed here are available only to those connected with an institution that supports the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). If you locate a membership-only study that fits your research needs and would like to purchase it, contact ICPSR User Support.

This feature searches the variable and value labels across all TPDRC data files that are publicly available. Some TPDRC files have question text included as part of the metadata and, when available, question text is also included in the search.

ICPSR maintains a searchable database of citations of known published and unpublished works resulting from analyses of data held in the ICPSR archive, including the TPDRC collection. Publications include journal articles, books, book chapters, government and agency reports, working papers, dissertations, conference papers, meeting presentations, and unpublished manuscripts.

ICPSR encourages its users to submit bibliographic citations to data we disseminate. To add a new citation to our Bibliography, please use our citation form or email us at bibliography@icpsr.umich.edu.
