Enhancements to Variable Searching

Another enhancement to the SAMHDA Web site is the revision of our variable search. The SAMHDA variable search is now integrated with ICPSR's Social Science Variables Database (SSVD), which holds approximately 40 percent of ICPSR's holdings with setup files excluding US Census data, roughly 1.5 million variables.

In addition, we're using SOLR to search the variable information. At present, we have facets for series, study, dataset, time period, and geography.

Lastly, we've integrated the variable search into the study home page.

SAMHDA users will notice some slightly different behavior in terms of the behavior of boolean operators and the look of the variable list pages, and will notice that the new variable search is much faster and has all the advantages of faceted searching.
