(1)Survey forms were distributed to 3,330 institutions and 2,880 usable responses were received. Twenty-eight institutions that were new to the HEGIS universe in fiscal year 1983 and that did not respond in fiscal years 1983 and 1984 are not included in this file. Data for 409 of the remaining institutions were imputed on the basis of data they submitted in fiscal year 1983, while data for the remaining 13 institutions were imputed through a peer selection process. (2) The codebook is provided by ICPSR as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The PDF file format was developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated and can be accessed using PDF reader software, such as the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Information on how to obtain a copy of the Acrobat Reader is provided on the ICPSR Web site.
