Scope of Study

Summary:

This data collection provides information on income and population estimates for the United States in the period 1969-1973. Variables include the total population in 1970, estimated population in 1973, per capita income for 1969, and estimated total money income for 1973. Data are recorded for each of the 38,529 governments (counties, townships, minor civil divisions, etc.) eligible for participation in the Federal Revenue Sharing Program. These data were prepared as part of the Bureau of the Census's Federal-State Cooperative Program for Local Population Estimates.

Sample:

A sample size of 38,529 counties, townships, and minor civil divisions in the United States in the period 1969-1973.

Extent of Processing:

All archived data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. The archive also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, the archive performed the following processing steps for this data collection:

  • Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.
