YOUTHACT: RESP PARTICIPATED IN YOUTH ACTIVITIES

NOTE: The variables in this section are recoded
variables that were created from one or more of the
edited variables from the preceding section.

The following variable, YOUTHACT, was created by
counting the number of positive responses reported
over the following ten activities: Youth center
activities (YEYMCA), scouts (YESCOUTS), private
lessons (YEPRVLES), team sports (YETEMSPT), 4-H club
(YE4HCLUB), volunteer work (YEVOLUNT), church choir
(YECHOIR), school clubs (YESCHCLB), band (YEBAND) or
student government (YESTGOVT). Youth respondents who
reported participation in 2 or more activities were
included in the 2 or more category regardless of
how many other questions were answered. Youth respondents
who did not answer 5 or more of the 10 questions with
a "yes" or "no" response were set to SAS missing and
excluded from the analysis. To be included in the
zero or one activity category, a youth respondent must have
answered 5 or more of the questions and said they
participated in either zero or one activity.
