Conference/Meeting Name:
Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Conference, Philadelphia, PA
Conference/Meeting Date:
Feb 2014
Abstract:
Within the criminal justice system, there is an overwhelming population of individuals with serious mental illness and substance abuse disorders. The current study will conduct a secondary data analysis on the Treatment Episode Data Set-Discharge (TEDS-D), compiled by SAMSHA, which provides data on those receiving substance abuse treatment, including those with referrals from the criminal justice system. This study will consider the role of co-occurring substance abuse and psychiatric disorders with regard to recent criminal contact, treatment success, and length of treatment. Consideration of such factors will be vital in addressing treatment of co-occurring disorders within the criminal justice system
