Summary: Data for this study were collected as part of the 2007 National Inmate Survey (NIS), which is comprised of two questionnaires -- a survey of sexual victimization and a survey of past drug and alcohol use and abuse. The survey of sexual victimization resulted in data from 23,398 inmates held in 146 sampled prisons and 40,419 inmates in 282 local jails in the NIS.
