A household survey, conducted in Powell County, Kentucky, ascertained the ages of household members and gathered other information as well. For those households with at least one member aged 60 or over, additional questions were asked about all of the household members and about the characteristics of the housing. Longer interviews were conducted with each household member who was 60 years of age or older. Question topics included health conditions, health care, access to health services, activities, work experiences, social network, transportation, communication, community services, income, and assets.

Household-level data for households with at least one member 60 years or over are located in Part 1, records 1 and 2. Interviews conducted with 398 of those older persons are located in Part 2, records 3-7. Basic household composition is provided on 208 households with no members 60 or over, in Part 3, record 1.

A total of 470 households were screened for basic information on the ages and relationships of their members. Of these households, 262 were found to have at least one member 60 years of age or older, and 208 did not have such older members. A total of 398 interviews were completed with the household members 60 years or older.

2006-01-18 File CB7860.ALL.PDF was removed from any previous datasets and flagged as a study-level file, so that it will accompany all downloads.
1984-03-18 ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:
