Description

IFSS_AGE contains the respondent's age in completed years at the time of interview.

General Comparability Notes

Summary: IFSS_AGE and its universe are highly comparable across surveys.

IFSS_AGE is defined for all respondents in all years. In all years, the respondent was asked her date of birth either directly in the questionnaire or as part of the screening interview that preceded the questionnaire, which is captured in IFSS_CMBIRTH. The date of the interview is included for all respondents in IFSS_CMINTVW. IFSS_AGE is calculated according to the following formula:

IFSS_AGE = trunc[(IFSS_CMINTVW-IFSS_CMBIRTH)/12].

That is, the respondent's age in years is calculated by calculating the number of months between her birth and her interview, dividing by 12, and then rounding down to produce the number of completed years.

IFSS_CMINTVW is unimputed for all respondents. Some women reported only the year they were born and not the month. In those instances, IFSS_CMBIRTH is imputed to a uniformly distributed random month within the given year. IFSS_AGE uses those imputed values, but they can be identified through the imputation flag IFSS_AGE_I.
