National Nursing Home Survey, 1969 (ICPSR 9780)
Principal Investigator(s): United States Department of Health and Human Services. National Center for Health Statistics
This data collection is one of the earlier "resident places" surveys in the National Nursing Home Survey series. Basic information about nursing homes and their residents and discharges is included in this survey. The Facility Questionnaire contains variables on number of patients, number receiving nursing care, inpatient days of care, admissions, live discharges, place of discharge, deceased discharges, number of beds, total number of employees, and services provided. The Resident Questionnaire includes information about the resident's age, sex, race, marital status, date of admission, diagnoses, services received, aids used, mobility, hearing, vision, charges for care, and sources of payment.
Data in this collection are available only to users at ICPSR member institutions. Please log in so we can determine if you are with a member institution and have access to these data files.

Per agreement with NCHS, ICPSR distributes the data file(s) and technical documentation in this collection in their original form as prepared by NCHS.
Sample: Two-stage, stratified probability sample. The first stage was a selection of facilities and the second stage was a selection of residents of the sampled facilities.
Restrictions: In preparing the data tape(s) for this collection, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) has removed direct identifiers and characteristics that might lead to identification of data subjects. As an additional precaution, NCHS requires, under section 308(d) of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 242m), that data collected by NCHS not be used for any purpose other than statistical analysis and reporting. NCHS further requires that analysts not use the data to learn the identity of any persons or establishments and that the director of NCHS be notified if any identities are inadvertently discovered. ICPSR member institutions and other users ordering data from ICPSR are expected to adhere to these restrictions.
