This data collection is a general survey of social issues in New York City. Topics covered include opinions of Ed Koch and the job he was doing as mayor, David Dinkins, Jesse Jackson, and other political leaders and public figures. Information was gathered on the familiarity of the names of possible mayoral candidates and whether the respondent would vote for them. Items were also included on the state of race relations in the city, treatment of the candidates by the media, crime in the city, problems of homeless people, and treatment of individuals by the courts and police. Background information on respondents includes political party affiliation, age, income, sex, religious preference, education, and race.

This file contains a weight variable that must be used in any analysis. The data contain blanks. Telephone exchanges have been recoded to '999' and the names of respondents have been blanked for reasons of confidentiality.
Sample: Stratified random digit dialing.
Extent of Processing: ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:
- Created variable labels and/or value labels.
Original ICPSR Release: 1991-05-03
