Scope of Study
Summary: The purpose of the NATIONAL MEDICAL CARE EXPENDITURE SURVEY was to assess the cost and extent of health insurance coverage in the United States. This data collection, in particular, provides data on the coverage and benefits available through private health insurance companies. Data were collected through a survey of individuals in households and then verified through a survey of private health insurance companies and employers of the individuals. Types of information collected in the study include service coverage, deductibles, benefit reimbursement provisions, and benefit limitations.
