Summary

This special-topic poll is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that solicit public opinion on the presidency and on a range of other political and social issues. This data collection explores respondents' perceptions of the differences between the Republican and Democratic parties and the strengths of the parties. Respondents were questioned about the effect of high interest rates on their plans to buy a home, purchase a car, or take a vacation. Respondents were also were asked for their opinions about Ronald Reagan's performance as president, budget director David Stockman, and military reductions in Europe by the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Demographic information about the respondent includes age, race, sex, religion, educational level, martial status, and type of residence.
