This survey was concerned with respondents' opinions of their neighborhoods, public policy issues, and racial issues. Housing discrimination, Black/White racial attitudes, and busing to achieve school integration were among the issues surveyed. Information was also collected on respondents' employment status and reasons for moving from or staying in their neighborhoods.

Two-stage probability sample of housing units, plus a supplemental probability sample of housing units occupied by Blacks and located within Detroit census tracts having at least 15-percent Black-occupied households in 1970. A total of 1,503 sample housing units were drawn and 1,134 interviews obtained, representing an overall response rate of 75.4 percent.

Heads or co-heads of households residing in year-round housing units located in the Detroit Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area in April-August 1976.
