For this survey, respondents were asked their opinion in regard to political issues, especially the prospective outcome for the 1980 presidential election. The survey polled respondents about their interest in the political campaigns and the 1980 presidential debates, and favored presidential candidate to win the 1980 presidential election, including Michigan's votes. Respondents were asked to evaluate President Carter's performance, as well as his role in economic and foreign policy, and the Iran hostage crisis. Pertaining to the upcoming presidential election, respondents were asked to project how certain political issues would be affected if a particular candidate were president. For those respondents who viewed the presidential debates and learned new information, they were asked to identify which topics each candidate addressed and the qualities of each candidate, and whether their general impression of a candidate was affected by the debate. Other related questions include the number of times the respondent voted in a presidential election since they became eligible to vote, whether and where the respondent was registered to vote, and the respondent's political affiliation. The survey also asked respondents to express their opinion regarding women's rights, abortion, and the future of economic and foreign policy issues, and to evaluate their personal financial situation. Demographic variables include gender, age, race, marital status, occupation, highest grade of school or year of college completed, income, religious preference, union membership, and number of phones and phone numbers in the household.
