Summary

This study contains a subset of items from the SURVEY OF CONSUMER FINANCES, 1964 (ICPSR 7444) that focused on the public's perception of the presidential transition subsequent to the assassination of President Kennedy. Variables assessed respondents' political preferences and opinions of the Johnson administration as compared with Kennedy's. Other questions probed the respondents' views on business conditions, unemployment, and foreign policy. Demographic variables include sex, age, race, religious preference, party identification, education, income, and occupation.

  1. 1) The first ICPSR edition of this study was released in 1968 and entitled "The Kennedy Study". The sample is self-weighting. 2) The frequencies are provided by ICPSR as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The PDF file format was developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated and can be accessed using PDF reader software, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Information on how to obtain a copy of the Acrobat Reader is provided on the ICPSR Web site.

Sample

Multistage, stratified, clustered sample obtained by area probability sampling. Within each household that fell into the sample, the household head was selected for interviewing, and spouses were interviewed if household heads were not available.
