Technology and Structure of Industrial Firms: United States, 1967 (ICPSR 7013)
The data for this study were obtained from the salaried personnel of 14 manufacturing firms located in two different industrial areas of the country. With two exceptions, the number of employees in these companies ranged between roughly 1,000 and 2,000, while the size of the management groups ranged from lows of 57-73 to highs of 242-366. Questions were asked about the distribution of power among divisions of the company, the discretion allowed employees, the individual influence of employees, and the coordination of individuals and groups within the firm. The dataset is structured with the individual employee as the unit of analysis, but the data can be aggregated on the basis of functional group and/or level within the organization, as well as by organization and by plant.
One or more data files in this study are set up in a non-standard format, such as card image format. Users may need help converting these files before they can be used for analysis.

Scope of Study
Sample: The data were obtained from the salaried exempt personnel (from foreman to president) of 14 manufacturing firms located in two established industrial areas in two different states. The participating firms represented approximately 25 percent of the firms contacted, while among the selected personnel the rate of response was 93 percent.
Restrictions: Data users who may be able to determine the names of the firms, or the areas they were located in, should refrain from disclosing them in any paper. They should also refrain from giving the exact number of respondents per firm, since this would facilitate identification. Instead, they should use ranges or approximate figures.
