Summary: This collection provides a longitudinal summary compilation of political action committee (PAC) campaign contributions previously released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). These data, made available by the Federal Election Commission, were taken directly from campaign finance reports filed by PACs, which are required to file such information under the federal election laws. Summary: This collection provides a longitudinal summary compilation of political action committee (PAC) campaign contributions previously released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). These data, made available by the Federal Election Commission, were taken directly from campaign finance reports filed by PACs, which are required to file such information under the federal election laws. This collection contains one record for each PAC and covers the years 1978-1990. Variables include total contributions made to incumbents and nonincumbents, Republicans and Democrats, House and Senate candidates, candidates running and candidates not running, and general election winners and losers.
