This study is provided by ICPSR. ICPSR provides leadership and training in data access, curation, and methods of analysis for a diverse and expanding social science research community.
Principal Investigator(s): Komlos, John, University of Munich
This data collection was designed to ascertain the size of horses in the Habsburg Military. The data supply information on the horses' height, color, age, and date of birth, as well as on archival source of data (register, signature) and provenance.
These data are available only to users at ICPSR member institutions. Because you are not logged in, we cannot verify that you will be able to download the data.

Scope of Study
Subject Terms: military records
Date of Collection:
Universe: Horses procured by the Habsburg Military.
Data Types: administrative records data
Data Collection Notes:
(1) Variables 'anmerkun' and 'heft' were removed from the dataset and appended to the codebook as separate text files. (2) A unique record identifier ('ID') was created to match dataset cases with appended text files. (3) While missing data codes were standardized for numeric variables 'enliyear', 'regiment', 'karton', and 'age_at_p', missing data for string variables 'gender' and 'marks' remain as blanks.
Sample: Random sampling was used.

Extent of Processing: ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:
- Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.
