Free Blacks in Philadelphia, PA in the Mid-19th Century: A Data-Driven Learning Guide (ICPSR 362)

Data-Driven Learning Guides are a collection of instructional exercises that can be used to enhance teaching of core concepts in the social sciences. This learning guide describes the lives of free Blacks in Philadelphia, PA in the mid-19th century. Research questions that can be explored using this learning guide include: how did free Blacks make a living, how important religion was to free Blacks, and how free Blacks gained their freedom. Comparison of means, crosstabulations, and frequency tables are used for the analyses.
