Scope of Study
Summary: These Fifth-Count Tallies by school district were created from the assembled and edited 20-percent, 15-percent, and 5-percent Samples portions of the 1970 Census of Population and Housing.
Subject Terms: census data, population, school districts
Geographic Coverage: United States
Time Period:
- 1970
Date of Collection:
- 1970
Universe: All persons and housing units in the United States.
Data Types: census/enumeration data
Data Collection Notes:
(1) The logical record for the School District file consists of 120 characters of geographical identification followed by 26 16-character tally fields and 878 8-character tally fields followed by 96 characters of padding. The file is sorted within state in ascending sequence of 5-digit school district codes. Where school districts cross county lines, school district total and county component records appear separately. In these cases, the school district total record precedes its county component records, which are sorted by 1970 FIPS county code. School districts with populations of less than 1,000 persons are combined in the code category 99999. (2) The codebook and data collection instrument are provided as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The PDF file format was developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated and can be accessed using PDF reader software, such as the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Information on how to obtain a copy of the Acrobat Reader is provided on the ICPSR Web site.
