Religion and Opinions on Democracy in Ghana: A Data-Driven Learning Guide (ICPSR 331)
Data-Driven Learning Guides are a collection of instructional exercises that can be used to enhance teaching of core concepts in the social sciences. This learning guide investigates the increasing attention being drawn to a debate about the compatibility of certain religions and democracy. In particular, it examines whether there is a difference between the way Muslims and Christians in Ghana perceive democracy and democratic ideas. Research Questions that can be explored using this learning guide include: how religious attachments influence public opinion about democracy in Ghana, whether Christians and Muslims have similar views on democracy, whether they agree about the relationship between religion and democracy, and whether women, both Muslim and Christian, perceive Islam and democracy in Ghana differently than men. Crosstabulations and frequency tables are used in the analyses.
