Eurobarometer 63.5: Consumer Rights in Poland, June-July 2005 (ICPSR 30881) RSS

Principal Investigator(s):

Summary:

The Eurobarometer series is a unique cross-national and cross-temporal survey program conducted on behalf of the European Commission. These surveys regularly monitor public opinion in the European Union (EU) member countries and consist of standard modules and special topic modules. The standard modules address attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as respondent and household demographics. The special topic modules address such topics as agriculture, education, natural environment and resources, public health, public safety and crime, and science and technology.

This round of Eurobarometer surveys covers the special topic of consumer rights in Poland and includes the following major areas of focus: (1) awareness of one's consumer rights and (2) awareness of consumer rights organizations. Questions pertain to media attention on consumer rights, awareness of the message "Sprawde, jakie masz prawa" ("Check what your rights are"), consumer rights compared to other EU countries, knowledge of rights as a consumer, and the Polish justice system. Questions regarding trust, knowledge, and opinions of certain institutions, organizations, and campaigns that deal with consumer rights are also included.

Demographic and other background information collected includes age, gender, nationality, origin of birth (personal and parental), marital status, left-right political self-placement, occupation, age when stopped full-time education, household composition, and ownership of a fixed or mobile telephone. In addition, country-specific data includes type and size of locality, and region of residence.

Data Collection Notes:

The original data collection was carried out by TNS Opinion and Social on request of the European Commission between June 25 and July 13, 2005.

This collection is being released in two parts. Part 1 contains the original files provided by GESIS and Part 2 the ICPSR-processed collection.

The documentation and/or setup files may contain references to countries other than Poland, but these countries were not participants in this wave of Eurobarometer surveys. This collection only contains data for Poland.

All questions are replicated in the framework of Eurobarometer 64.3 (ICPSR 4590) and were in large part already asked in the framework of Eurobarometer 63.3 (ICPSR 23680), always for Poland only.

Access to GESIS data and documentation, including the GESIS DOI, for Eurobarometer 63.5 can be found through the GESIS Data Catalogue. Additional information on the Eurobarometer Survey Series and the Eurobarometer data can be found at the GESIS Eurobarometer Web site and ZACAT, respectively.

Methodology

Sample:   Multistage national probability samples.

Weight:   Please review the "Variable Documentation" section contained within the "GESIS Documentation" section of the ICPSR codebook.

Mode of Data Collection:   face-to-face interview

Extent of Processing:  ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:

  • Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.
